Propylene Glycol or PG is a chemical derived from synthesis by the reaction between Propylene Oxide and water. Its characteristics are clear liquid, colorless, odorless and slightly sweet.

Application
In the food industry, it is used as a solvent for dissolving other food additives in food or beverages. It is used as an emulsifier mixed into oil, vinegar or salad dressing to prevent layer separation and used as Humectants to help absorb moisture. It is popularly blended in powdered foods and beverages, crispy pastries, or mixed in dry animal foods to control humidity to prevent coagulation and extend shelf life. In the production process, Propylene Glycol is used in the Heat Transfer process to help prevent pressure and corrosion.
It is used as an ingredient in formulas to increase efficacy and function. For example, it is used as a preservative to extend the shelf life, a Solvent, a carrier of Emulsifier and Flavors in products such as cough syrup and liquid medicine for children, a mixture in the extraction process, plasticizers to reduce the melting point that causes the Flexing Temperature of the plastic, resulting the plastic resins more flexible and softer and convenient to pull, iron, glaze, or mold in the film-coating for capsule production.
It is used as an ingredient in the formula. For example, it is used as Humectants mixed with alcohol to wash hands to prevent dry and rough skin. It is mixed in shampoo or hair treatment products to prevent dry and damaged hair.
